Introduction:

Mozart Academy Piano Competition and Festival is organized to provide an opportunity for those children and youth who are interested in the art of playing the piano and displaying their virtuosity  as well as improving their performance skills.

The competition is held for the following four age categories: 5-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-19,20-25

The competition consists of two phases.

In order to increase the number of outlets for students, the festival is organized at the same time with the competition. Participation to the festival is open to any individual who has not turned 21 at the time.

Competition Date and Venue:

The competition and festival will be held during 4,5,6, and 7 June 2017 at Karsiyaka Belediyesi Hikmet Simsek Arts Center in Izmir, Turkey.

COMPETITION LIST OF CONDITIONS:

1)      The competition is open to those children and youth born between 1992 and 2012.

2)      Mozart Academy First International Piano Contest will be held in two phases for four different age categories.

3)      All participants will receive a certificate for attending the competition.

4)      A participant can only enter the competition within his/her age group.

5)      Applying for the competition requires a mandatory fee, which is 200 TL.

6)      Participants who live outside Turkey,may pay the fee when they arrive.

7)      Applicants are responsible for all their accommodation, meal and travel expenses.

8)      All phases of the competition are open and free to public.

9)      All participants are required to perform by memory. All participants should they exist, in their selected music pieces. Same pieces cannot be repeated in different phases of the competition.

10)   All participants for the competition are required to be present and ready at the music hall at least one hour ahead of the time announced by the organizers.

11)   The Jury have the right to award prizes ex aequo (i.e., may grant more than one person the first, second or third place in each age category). Should such a condition occur, the monetary awards will be divided among those who completed the competition with the same ranking.

12)   The competition applicants are required to fill out the application forms and any other competition related documents and email them to Mozart Academy (mozartacadey.pianofest@gmail.com) by 30 April 2017 deadline.

13)   A excursion to historical and touristic sites are planned after the completion of the competition. All competitors are welcome to attend it.

PHASE I

1)       Two or more musical pieces of your choice.

CATEGORY A (9-11 YEARS) 2008-2006

PHASE I

  1. A musical piece from the Baroque Period (e.g. menuet, polonaise, sarabande, prelude and fugue, invention, suite, etc.)
  2. A classical sonata or sonatina, 1st Part (allegro) (e.g. Clementi, Kuhlau, Diabelli, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven),or variation,fantazy.
  3. An etude (e.g. Czerny, Lemuan, Berens, etc.)

 

PHASE II

  1. Two or more musical pieces of your choice

 (The duration of this phase cannot exceed 8 minutes)

 

CATEGORY B (12-14 YEARS)( 2005-2003)

PHASE I

  1. A poliphonic music piece (invention with 2 or 3 voices, prelude and fugue,partita,süite etc.) (e.g. Bach, Shostakovich etc)
  2. 2.         A classical sonata ,(sonatine)1st Part (Allegro) or fantazy,variation.(Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven)
  3. 3.         An etude (Czerny op.299, op.740, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Lemuan, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Scriabin, Debussy, etc.)

 

PHASE II

  1. 1.  Two or more musical pieces of your choice

 (The duration of this phase cannot exceed 10 minutes)

 

CATEGORY C (15-19 YEARS)(2002-1998)

PHASE I

  1. A prelude and fugue (e.g. Bach, Shostakovich Hindemith,Kabalevsky etc.)partita,suite.
  2. A classical sonata Part I must be allegro
  3. An virtuoso etude (e.g. Chopin, Lizst, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, etc.)

PHASE II

  1. A musical piece by a composer of your choice .
  2. A musical piece from the Romantic period
  3. A musical piece from the 20th century (one or more musical pieces can be picked)

 

(The duration of this phase cannot exceed 12 minutes.)

 

       CATEGORY D (20-25 YEARS)(1997-1992)

PHASE I

 

  1. A prelude and fugue (e.g. Bach, Shostakovich Hindemith.
  2. A classical sonata Part I must be allegro
  3. Two virtuoso etudes(e.g. Chopin, Lizst, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, etc.)

  

PHASE II

  1. A musical piece which composed by a composer of the participants country.
  2. A musical piece from the Romantic period.
  3. A musical piece from the 20th century (one or more musical pieces can be picked)

((The duration of this phase cannot exceed 20 minutes.)

 

AWARDS        

Piano Competition Awards:

Debut Category (5-8 Years)

First, Second and Third Prize 

Medal and Commemorative Award

 

Category A (9-11 Years)

First Prize: 150 $

 

Medal and a commemorative award will be given to the winners.

 

Category B (12-14 Years)

First Prize: 250 $

 

Medal and a commemorative award will be given to the winners.

 

Category C(15-19 Years)

First Prize: 350 $

 

Medal and a commemorative award will be given to the winners.

 

Category D(2025 Years)

First Prize: 500 $

 

Medal and a commemorative award will be given to the winners

 

JURY RULES

1)      The Jury will consist of members who are experts in their respective field and with international experience.

2)      The relatives and students of the Jurors cannot participate in the competition.

3)      The names of the Jurors will be announced on 15 May 2017.

1)      Application form

2)      National ID card, or photocopy of passport

3)      One passport size photograph (digital)

4)      Brief personal background

5)      Photocopies of all musical pieces that will be performed for the competition (1 each) (hard copies can also be hand delivered prior to the competition)

FESTİVAL LIST OF CONDITIONS:

2)      Each participant in the 5-11 age category will have a maximum of 5 minutes, and each participant in the 12-20 age category will have a maximum of 10 minutes to perform the selected musical pieces.
